About The Camp
In early 2014 Wagner and his wife moved from Southern California when an opportunity arose to open a restaurant. Neither had experience with restaurant management, but the two were at a crossroads in their careers.
“My wife and I were just looking for opportunity. We both had different jobs and we wanted something different, so that’s what we did,” Wagner said.
After some deliberation the Wagner’s decided to bring The Camp to Natchez, a local sports bar that offered a variety of beer and food. Their focus was to create a family-friendly environment while sharing a beer and watching sports.
“My wife and I love going to sports bars, she doesn’t watch sports at all but she just loves the environment,” Wagner said. “We wanted to create something in Natchez that we would want to go hang out at.”
Another original goal of Wagner was to bring craft beer to Natchez. According to Wagner before he moved, there was only one brewery in the state of Mississippi. After a change in Mississippi beer laws, craft breweries began to take off. Having some experience and a fan of different craft beers himself, Wagner saw an opportunity for his restaurant.
“Part of our original goal was to help promote all these original breweries that were popping up, not just in Mississippi but in also the surrounding states,” Wagner said.
The Camp currently serves beers from 13 different breweries with the majority of beers coming from Southern breweries. The beers are rotated frequently and seasonally for a constant change in styles. A full list can be seen on their website or at the bottom of this page.
What makes The Camp Unique?
The Camp offers 18 different taps featuring craft beers ranging from California to Mississippi. It provides beer drinkers a variety of IPA’s, Stouts and Porter’s unlike anywhere else in the community. The local sports bar also serves everything from burgers and sandwiches to salads and seafood. Along with this The Camp prides itself on their quality of food and attention to detail, making almost everything from scratch.
“We believe you should be able to order fresh quality food at a sports bar,” Wagner said. “It’s food that goes with beer, but everything is given special attention, or doctored to some point.”
Wagner said he’s always looking for more opportunities, but his main focus right now is continuing to improve The Camp for his customers.
“I can’t tell you how much we’ve learned in the past four years,” Wagner said. “We’re just trying to always get better and be more efficient and consistent.”
